Hemanta Kumar Gangopadhyay was a brilliant author and eminent thinker in the world of Bengali literature. He may not be highlighted as much as his other contemporary authors but he was able to put his own unique style in his literary works.
Gangopadhyay was born in 1914. In his early professional life he was involved in the teaching profession at Jadavpur University and his subject of teaching was Sanskrit. Later he became the member of secretariat in the Communist Party of Assam. His ideologies have been reflected in his writings.
Some of his notable works are ‘Charbak Darshan’, ‘Vaidik Dharma o Mimansha-Darshan’, ‘Somaj Sahittyo o Darshan’ etc. In his books Gangopadhyay has blended the literary vision of Rabindranath Tagore with sociological aspects and mythological theories. He passed away in 2007 creating an irreparable void in the world of modern literature and thinking.
