Sasthipada Chattopadhyay is an eminent Bengali author who has exhibited great expertise in writing short stories for children. He was born in Sashitala of Howrah in 1941 and was a high class civil servant of Indian Railway. Before joining Railway, he used to work in ‘Anandabazar Patrika’. His stepped into the world of literature with his first work ‘Kamakhya Bhraman’ in the year 1961. He gained immense popularity for his ‘Pandab Goenda’ series, depicting a group of five adolescent detective, who solve various mysteries along with their dog ‘Panchu’. This series have become highly famous among the children and it has been made in many forms for television. There are two more fictional detective character made by Chattopadhyay, namely ‘Goenda Tatar’ and ‘Detective Ambar Chatterjee’. His literary career mostly revolves around adventure and thriller genre. Some of his legendary works are ‘Goenda Tatarer Avijaan’, ‘Panchaasti Bhuter Golpo’, ‘Punyatirthe Bharman’, ‘Chaturtha Tadanta’ and many others. In 2017, Chattopadhyay was honored with prestigious ‘Bal Sahitya Puraskar’ Award for his relentless contribution to children’s literature.
