When it comes to Muslim writers of Bengal, Mir Mosharrof Hossain is considered as the pioneer. He was born in 1847 at Kushtia district in Bengal Presidency. He started his career as a reporter in 'Sangbad Prabhakar' and then 'Gram Barta Prakashika'. From there he started to sharpen his writing style to become an established writer. He made his debut in the literary world with his first novel ‘Ratnavati’ in 1869. Some of his well-known literary works are 'Bishad Sindhu', 'Jamidar Darpan', ‘Tahmina’, ‘Er Upay ki’, ‘Madinar Gaurab’ etc. He had put enormous effort to raise his voice against the decline of the nineteenth-century Bengal in his writings in a satirist way. His autobiography is 'Amar Jiboni'. This writer died at Bil Padambi under Bengal Presidency in 1912.
