Buddhadeb Bosu

বুদ্ধদেব বসু


One of the versatile writers of 20th century, Buddhadeb Bosu was born in 1908 in Comilla, now in Bangladesh. Though Bosu is known more for his poetry but he also wrote novels, short stories and essays. His poems are influenced by Bauldelaire, a renowned western poet. His most poems are of free verse with a great synchronization of rhyme and rhythm. ‘Bandir Bandan’, his first book of poetry was published when he was only seventeen years old. However, it was his novel ‘Tithidore’ and ‘Raat Bhar’er Brishti’ that makes him one of the popular literary figures among his contemporaries. His other works include ‘Mormorani’, ‘Notun Pata’, ‘Sreshto Kobita’, ‘Domoyonti’, ‘Prithibir Pothe’, ‘Amar Bondhu’, ‘Kalo Haoa’, ‘Mono Deya Neya’, ‘Shara’, ‘Golap Keno Kalo’, etc. He is the recipient of Sahitya Akademy Award in 1967 for the play, Tapaswi-O-Tarangini’, Rabindra Puraskar in 1974 for Swagato Biday and Padma Bhusan in 1970. He died in 1974.
