Nihar Ranjan Gupta was born on June 6, 1911. He was not only an author but also a dermatologist. While staying in England for his medical studies, he developed a strong interest in detective stories that is later found in his novels. His famous detective character Kiriti Roy shows his mastery of characterization. One of the most prominent things in Gupta’s writings is that they are simple and therefore, every reader can enjoy his novels. He wrote around two hundred novels, short stories and essays in his career. Some of them include ‘Ulka’, ‘Uttarphalguni’, ‘Asti Bhagirathi Tire’, ‘Lalubhulu’, ‘Devyani’, ‘Mayamriga’, ‘Nishipadma’, etc. He died on February 20, 1986.
