Nirmalendu Goon was born June 21, 1945 in Bangladesh. He is an eminent poet of Bangladesh who mastered the interplay of words and the use of syntax. He also experimented with the poetic forms with his sheer command over the language that makes him one of the versatile poets of all time. He belongs to the era of emergence of the neo-rich class in Bangladesh that is evident in his poems. He believed in equality and urges people to break the social barriers of poor and rich in his writings. His first book of poetry is ‘Premangshur Rokto Chai’ followed by other works such as ‘Na Premika, Na Biplabi’, ‘Deshantor’, ‘Nirbachita’, ‘Dukkho Koro Na Bancho’, ‘Kalo Megher Vela’, ‘Nishi Kabyo’, etc. His three autobiographies are ‘Amar Chhelebela’, ‘Amar Konthhoshor’, and ‘Atma Kotha’. He is the recipient of Bangla Academy Literary Award (1982) Ekushe Padak (2001), and Independence Day Award (2016).
