Taraknath Ganopadhyay, popularly known as Narayan Gangopadhyay was born on February 4, 1918 in Dinajpur, a district in present West Bengal. His writing career started when he was a student. Though he tried almost every genre of literature, it was his short stories that brought him fame. He was a romantic writer that is evidently seen in his early writings. He is also well-known for his contribution in children’s literature. His ‘Tenida Samagra’ is a masterpiece. Besides, his other literary works are ‘Uponibesh’, ‘Mantramukhar’, ‘Mohananda’, ‘Trophy’, ‘Lalmati’, Bhim Badh’, ‘Agontuk’, ‘Tenida o Sindhughotok’, etc. He died on November 6, 1970 in Kolkata.
