Tilottama Majumadar is one of the leading authors of 21st Century West Bengal known mostly for her Bengali novels and short stories. She was born on 11th of January, 1966 in North Bengal and spent most of her childhood days in Kalchini village of Alipurduar District. In 1985 she came to Kolkata for her graduation from Scottish Church College.
Inspired by his elder brother, Tilottama Majumdar started her literary journey in 1993. Her first novel “Ree” was first published in 1996 in the Puja-edition of the periodical Ekaler Raktakarabi. Through her writings, Tilottama Majumdar has been contemplating diverse social circumstances: her novels like “Dhanesh Pakhir Thont” (2001) , “Ajokanya” (2011), “Eso September” (2011), “Chander gaye Chand” (2015), “Ektara” (2015), “Shamukkhol” (2016), “Nirjan Saraswati” (2018), “Jhumra” (2018), “Jol o Chumur Upakhyan” (2020), “Pretjoni” (2020) etc. depicted the complexity of interpersonal relationship and the social stigmas associated with the contemporary patriarchal society, which are often confronted by the female protagonists. Again, her novels like “Basudhara” (2002), “Prahan” (2004), “Jonakira” (2008), “Rajpat” (2009), “Swarger Seshprante” (2015), “Iswarer Basa” (2015), “Ref” (2017), “Mityunjoy” (2020) depicted the socio-economic disequilibrium between the social classes, and their impact on the social view, thoughts and the mundane life of the individuals, specially of the marginal class. She has also written some mythical fictions like “Amritani” (2012), “Arjun o Charkanya” (2013) which are centred around the socio-political milieu of Ancient India. Her other major fictional works include “Manush Shaboker Kotha” (1998), “Sadharon Mukh” (1999), “Chandu” (2012), “Mouni”, “Apurba Rahashya”, “Debi Adhobadana”, “Anritakalyan”, “Gaan Nei”, “Jarmer Chokh”, “Bhadate”, “Upantya”, “Buddhu Sir erbuddhi” etc. She also writes short stories, poems and essays in various periodicals. For “Basudhara”, Tilottama Majumdar has been awarded with Anondo Purashkar; she has also bestowed with Dettol-Anandabazar Sharad Arghya Shresta Uponyas, Kakka Nadan Sahitya Purashkar, Bhagalpur Sarat Smriti Purashkar, Sailajananda Smriti Purashkar, Khonj Sahitya Purashkar, Prativa Basu Satabarsha Smarak Samman, and Moti Nandi Sahitya Purashkar. Presently, she is associated with the editorial board in the Publication Division of Ananda Publishers.
